Near Miss

I heard a cheeping sound outside the window and wanted to identify the bird making it. I looked up and down the pine trees, trying to spot the bird but couldn’t see anything. Finally I stood up and leaned into the screen, not being quiet, just in case my gentle movement would encourage the bird to move so I could see it. Instead, I was the one startled by a soft fluttered sound and a flurry of deep red movement as the bird cheeped once and flew out from the cedar right beneath the window. If only I had been quieter, I would have been able to see it up close.

Just see where impatience gets me.
