Fall Rain

Cold, rainy fall weather today.  A large branch just broke off the top of a pine tree and blew to the ground.  The wind is from the northwest and gusting to 50 – it’s from the Arctic and hurrying winter’s chill before it.  I can hear birds in between the gusts, brave little things riding the roller coaster winds in their daily search for food.  I’m sitting in my studio snug and cozy and sheltered, wishing I didn’t have to go out.  Nick and I will go for our walk later, and it will be exciting to be in the blowing wind, smell the damp earth and pluck leaves from our hair.  But for now, I’m happy to be warm and dry and inside.
